Yoga + Art = YogArt. Experience and interact with WBCA exhibits by participating in a yoga class surrounded by art in the gorgeous WBCA Main Gallery.
Midday is the most strategic time to do yoga, boosting both productivity and sleep quality. A unique “Open House” format means the yoga class is divided into two halves, so if you have to arrive late or leave early, it’s still worth your while.
On more leisurely days, you’re welcome to linger and soak up all those creative vibes, chilling with a complementary coffee, taking a lap around the labyrinth, or peeking in on some of the amazing art classes.
YogaHotDish Instructor Shaila Cunningham started collaborating with WBCA back in the Armory days. She likes to call her teaching style “Yoga Impressionism,” in that “We’re all looking at a basic pose like a still life, each of us making our own interpretation at our own pace, putting unique flourishes on it to suit our needs in the moment.”
While “repeating forms” photos featuring perfectly aligned students are common in the yoga world, Shaila believes no two people should look alike in a pose as no two bodies are the same.
Unlike yoga in typical group exercise settings, Shaila roves around the room, coaching students as needed, meeting them where they’re at physically and mentally. Hands-on assists and helpful prop placement are par for the course in this small-group setting. Poses are also vetted for safety and taught as “meditation in motion.” All classes are beginner friendly, no flexibility required. You need only be able to get up and down off the floor, unassisted.
Please bring a water container and a mat if you have one. No need to buy one if you’re a beginner as loaner mats are available. Blocks, straps, and bolsters are also provided.
