PEACE UNITED “Fit & Feisty 45+” ~ Drop in $20

If you’re over 45, your chance of injury in yoga goes way up. Quality instruction matters! You wouldn’t want a newbie hairstylist would you? Your hair will grow back. Don’t risk injury and joint health messing around in large classes taught by young, under-trained instructors –even if it says “gentle yoga” or “senior yoga.” You need expertise and loads of personal attention to make sure you’re not one of the 10 people who end up in the ER trying yoga.
Neither fit nor feisty? It’s OK, we can work on it! You must be able to get up off the floor, albeit slowly–you’ll improve that skill, a key longevity marker. Not group-exercised-disguised-as-yoga, this class is comprehensive, 90 minutes long. You’ll receive feedback on form and technique in every class, as well as some hands-on assistance from a knowledgeable teacher with 20+ years’ experience.
North Oaks Yoga HotDish “Fit & Feisty 45+” now meets in the unique space that is Peace United, just off Hodgson, south of the North Oaks West Entrance. Still North Oaks Yoga, but more convenient to Shoreview and Arden Hills– plus better vibes! Poses will be more reminiscent of PT (physical therapy) — not gymnastics!
“Fit and Feisty” was named based on the class attendees, many of whom have been practicing together weekly for nearly 20 years! Participants range in age from 40-something to 90-something. They’re lifelong learners who make wellness a priority. They’re the inspiring ones who grit it out, persevere through life’s vicissitudes, and dazzle at class reunions!
Each class is a full menu of YogaHotDish from Asana (poses) to Pranayama (breathing techniques) and Savasana (final meditation). Poses are carefully vetted for value: there’s a risk-reward profile to every pose–and some may simply not be worth it. This is a class where attendance counts, but luckily, not much else.
Bring a mat, water, towel, strap if you have one, and your sense of humor. This is a small group class which means you’ll receive individual coaching. The instructor moves about the room and is not “on stage.”
Some loaner mats, blocks, and ties to lend. You must be able to get up and down off the floor unassisted. We often have chairs, but it’s not “chair yoga.” Chairs are just great yoga props in general! Plan to be outdoors when temps 60-80 degrees.
Summer Session: June 7 – Aug 30. (no class July 5); 12 Wednesdays.
Sept 6 – Nov 29; 13 Wednesdays (Yes there IS class the WED before Thanksgiving!)
