Around 50% men, this class is guy/dude/bro-approved! Men need yoga–perhaps more than women, but why? The equation is simple: Strength – Flexibility = INJURY. That said, the worst thing a dude can do is wind up in a fast-moving, choreographed flow class with a petite instructor who’s likely a former dancer/ gymnast! Those instructors have never spent a day in an inflexible body with long leveraging limbs that put more pressure on joints, a recipe for injury!
Guys and people without dancer/yoga/gymnast bodies feel welcome and appreciated in this class, which is why it has been running successfully for nearly 20 years. This class used to meet at the rec centers in North Oaks but has moved to cleaner, greener pastures…
North Oaks Yoga HotDish is now serving Smarter Yoga for Better Living at Peace United Methodist, a contemporary gem (with skylights) just off Hodgson Rd, south of the North Oaks West Entrance, which I am also proud to call my “church home.”
It’s your instructor who makes this “North Oaks Yoga” but students come from surrounding areas to make one community. Peace United is more convenient to Shoreview and Arden Hills– plus better vibes! This is sincere yoga for sincere people. Good-natured banter often ensues.
Each class is a full menu of YogaHotDish from Asana (poses) to Pranayama (breathing techniques) and Savasana (final meditation). Bring a mat, water, towel, strap if you have one, and your sense of humor. This is an all-levels, small-group class which means you’ll receive individual coaching.
Some loaner mats, blocks, and ties to lend. You must be able to get up and down off the floor unassisted. We often have chairs, but it’s not “chair yoga.” Chairs are just great yoga props in general!
